Christina Friedrichsen knew from the moment she got engaged that she didn't want a cookie-cutter wedding. She wanted a wedding that was unique, fun and most of all intimate. She wanted to celebrate her big day with the people who mattered most in her life. The idea of inviting dozens of guests she hardly knew did not fit in with her or her husband's vision of a great wedding.

When she began planning her intimate wedding, which included only 50 guests, she quickly realized that there was little information on the topic. All of the wedding planning books seemed to cater to large weddings.

After connecting with other frustrated brides who were also planning small weddings, Christina realized there was a dire need for a wedding book that spoke to brides like her.

"There wasn't anything out there that said it was okay to have a small wedding. There wasn't anything out there that validated our choice to have a small guest list," says Christina.

After spending nearly a year researching small weddings and interviewing nearly 100 couples, Christina began to write.

The result is the book that she wished that she had when she planned her wedding.

Christina's background

Christina worked as an editor for numerous community newspapers before becoming a freelance writer in 2000. She has written a variety of wedding articles, and her work has appeared in several national newspapers, magazines and radio programs. She lives near London, Ontario, Canada with her husband and daughters.

She is a member of The Professional Writers Association of Canada.

Aside from writing, Christina enjoys running, scrapbooking, painting and soapmaking.

Reviews

This is a great handbook full of ideas, tips, and valuable resource information on every page... Easy to understand and execute ideas that will help you plan your special day to be the way you want it to be.

The Blend Magazine

A great source of inspiration for breaking the rules, but not the bank ... Friedrichsen's research on budgeting for and creating special ceremonies, receptions and theme weddings is exhaustive in its detail... refreshingly organized.

Austin American Statesman

(Intimate Weddings) is well-researched, practical, creative ... I was impressed.

Rona Cherry, former editor Newsweek

Any couple considering an intimate wedding will be energized and ready to get started after reading this book. It is attractive and easy to read and truly does lend emotional support to those that are having a small, maybe less traditional wedding. I encourage all of my clients to read this book.

Lisa Light, author Destination Bride

Intimate Weddings is an absolute encyclopedia ... Reality reading at its best for brides and grooms wanting a unique day suited for themselves and their budget. Actual couples weddings, including the authors, are outlined for readers to view and compare.

Best Wedding Sites

Intimate Weddings is beautifully designed, has been painstakingly researched, and is written with style and elegance.

Ann Douglas, bestselling author Mother of All Series

Friedrichsen's guide helps (couples) create realistic budgets, intimate ceremonies and memorable receptions. Wedding books are always popular, and one catering to couples planning an intimate affair for fewer than 75 guests will surely be in demand.  Recommended for all public libraries.

Library Journal

Intimate Weddings is a charming, beautifully-written book, filled with poignant, creative ways to have a small personalized wedding -- a wedding that will be remembered for a lifetime. Diane Warner, author of 21 books, including the best-selling "How to Have a Big Wedding on a Small Budget," and "Complete Book of Wedding Vows"
