The cupcake craze is far from over. Cupcake crawls are still popping up from coast to coast. And they’re still all the rage at weddings.
Why? They’re delicious. They’re pretty. They don’t require utensils. They’re economical. Which makes them a perfect alternative to wedding cakes – and ideal for wedding and shower favors!
I love consumable wedding favors, so when Tawnya from Gourmet Gift Company in California offered up a $100 gift certificate towards her gourmet custom label cupcake mix wedding/shower favors as a contest prize for my readers, I was delighted!
These are not your typical out-of-the-box cupcakes! (Read a review over here ). The mixes are handmade is small batches with wholesome ingredients. They are all-natural with no artificial flavors or preservatives. Your guests simply add fresh ingredients from their kitchen and bake. Each box makes a dozen cupcakes. What a sweet reminder of your wedding day!
Each mix comes complete with your choice of a white gloss or natural-colored box and your choice of custom personalized label.
For your chance to win a $100 gift certificate towards Gourmet Gift Company’s custom label cupcake mix wedding/shower favors, simply leave your answer to the following question in the comment section beneath this post:
What was the wedding favor that you received at the last wedding you attended? What made it a good (or not-so-good) wedding favor?
Deadline is 11:59 PM Eastern Time April 20, 2009. The winner will be chosen by the random number generator and posted April 22. The winner will be contacted by email. Contest is open to residents of the U.S and Canada only.
Good luck. I look forward to your responses!

I actually don’t remember what the favor was at the last wedding I attended! I think it was some sort of chocolate, but I can’t remember details. I guess that shows that it wasn’t the most memorable of favors…
Our friends Marlene + Jocelyn got “illegally gay married in the woods” this past winter. Jocelyn stayed up the night before the wedding making hundreds of teeny tiny cookies and filled small glass jars with them. They were at everyone’s place setting and most everyone ate all of their delicious cookies before dinner was even served. We now use the empty glass jar to hold sugar, sweet + low, etc packets. I give this favor a double thumbs up.
Last wedding favor I received was a very small picture frame (the placecards were inside) which turned out well. I put a small pic from the wedding in it and it doesn’t take up much space on the shelf.
I would prefer consumable favors though. We all have too much stuff already.
The favors at the last wedding I attended were heart shaped sugar cookies which turned out to be a great snack at the end of the night. I think most people ate theirs before they even left the reception!
The last wedding I attended was many years ago~no favors were given! It was a small wedding, family and close friends, good conversation and food, no one missed them…
Cupcakes are among the best foods in the world.
I could eat one every day and never tire of them!
What a fun giveaway! My last wedding favor I received was a small tree sprig in a cute ceramic pot that could be planted to “grow the love”. Thanks!
This comment ended up under the wrong post so I am posting it here for Melissa:
Melissa writes:
“The last wedding I went to gave out cd’s with the couple’s favorite love songs on it. I hate to say it, but the cd never made it into my home, regardless of my cd player. It’s not the first cd favor I’ve gotten and I’ve never listened to any of them, I think it’s a huge waste. Although the songs surely mean something to the couple, they don’t to the guests. I definitely prefer consumable favors…especially delicious ones!”
The favors at the last wedding I went to were little white boxes with two delicious doughnuts in each box from a local bakery. The lid of the box had a little label that matched the rest of the wedding stationary and had a little poem about it being a ring for the guests or something like that. It was a wonderful favor because it gave us something quick and delicious to have for breakfast the next morning!
The last favor I received at a wedding was photo coasters, which actually was a nice one because I use them and put my own photos in them. I would LOVE to give away cupcakes as favors, as everyone knows my fiance and I love to try cupcakes wherever we go!
The last wedding I attended, matches were given out as favors! The kids can’t play with them and the adults just stash them away somewhere until they come across them 5 years later. They are a complete waste of money. Cupcakes are awesome, because they are edible…and everyone loves something to eat and the guests will totally love them!!!
The last wedding I went to mini-champagnes were given out as favors. It was a cute idea, but I didn’t even end up with one. I saw one guest take 6!
At the last wedding I went to, the favors were German chocolate. Even though the wedding was in the US, the bride and groom both live in Germany and wanted to bring back a piece of his culture for us to celebrate! I thought it was a great favor because it was so personal (and made a great midnight snack!).
I believe it was a pen (the kind you get in a 10 pack for a buck)??? Not really the best favor (in my opinion) but could have been useful had I not left it on the table! I would really prefer something edible – I have a sweet tooth so anything w/ a bit of sugar is definitely the way to my heart!
Great Giveaway!!
The last wedding I attended was for my cousin. The wedding was very nice, the arrangements were beautiful but not the favors. They gave away tiny plastic basket with almonds. I know it cost them money and time for putting it together but being so creative she is, I suspected something different. I did take the favor home but within a couple months the favor went straight to the trash
The last wedding I attended had gold foil wrapped chocolates as favors, which was ok, but I didn’t love it. I feel like a favor should reflect the personality of the couple, as opposed to being generic. Otherwise, it’s just a waste of money.
The last favor I received was an ice cream scoop. It was great because it is a favor that was high quality and I still actually use it. The only issue was the couple gave only one per couple, not one per person, which caused minor confusion between among the guests. However, this is one of my favorite favors yet!
I went to a wedding last week that gave out hershey kisses as a wedding favor. Although I love chocolate, it seemed a little generic and took away from the specialness of it!
The last wedding I went had a photobooth as a favor. Each of us got to go in there with our guest or friends and take a photo strip come. I thought it was a great idea!
I honestly don’t remember what the last favor I got was! Clearly it wasn’t that exciting. I think I would remember cupcakes though!
The last favor I got was a candle. It was nice because it was something we could actually use, but it didn’t seem very personal.
The last favor I received from a wedding is a cute box with a lid with a personalized label and satin bow. Inside the box were white candied almonds. Very typical favor seen at many weddings with tasteless candy.
I received Hershey Kisses wrapped in tulle with a ribbon to tie it close. The ribbon turned out to be a bookmark with beads and a heart-shaped label with the couple’s name on it. I thought the favor was great because it was edible, practical, and a lovely reminder of the day. However, since they left the favors out in the sun, the chocolates were melted
.
The last favor that I received was a little tin bucket full of white chocolate shaped chickens (country themed wedding). It was really cute and I still have them!

The last wedding I attended was a wedding of my fiance’s high school friend last fall. There were two “favors,” I believe. The first was a wallet-sized picture of the couple cleverly displayed on the inside of the placecards (4 slits were made in the corners of a folded over decorative piece of cardstock to hold the picture on the inside), and each guest was also given a small baggie of fall-colored mints. Favors are always nice but the real favor is getting to meet and mingle with familiar and unfamiliar people and share such a special event with someone. It’d be awfully “sweet” to win some cupcakes, though!!!
The last favor I received at a wedding was a magnet that the couple had made in the shape of a heart with their initials and wedding date etched in. I liked it because – you can always use a new cute magnet and it was so them to do such a craft! MMMMM cupcakes!
This is a fantastic idea!
At the last wedding I attended we received tiny saplings to be taken home and planted. It was a cute idea, but unfortunately my tree didn’t make it!
Okay, let’s be honest…who really wants a picture frame or a bell or a CD of someone else’s favorite songs? Next point, who doesn’t like a tasty treat? At the last wedding I went to, they gave truffles from a shop in their home “college” town which they get stars for the thought, however, I am not into white chocolate (I mean where is the chocolate;-)) so, I take away a few stars for that.
Now, on to why cupcakes are the perfect giveaway and favor idea for this girl! We recently had a “cupcake war” in our paper (Washington Post.) It ran for 8 weeks total and compared several of the cupcakeries in the area. After each weekly competitive ranking came out, I would travel to the establishments, pick up 1/2 dozen, and the fiance and I would rank them on our own. We needed to find a place that we loved who could make cupcakes for our summer wedding, and I heart cupcakes more than any other dessert. What’s not to love in your own delicious, moist, just for you dessert?
Anyway, cupcakes rock! This giveaway rocks! Thanks:-)
At the last wedding I was at the Bride and Groom made donations to charity, which I liked. I find favours to be rather useless, I never really want to keep them, so I was glad they used it for something important. I plan to do the same at my wedding as well.
I actually think the last favor I had was a cupcake!! I’ve had the candy buffet favors as well, I do love the edible favors!
I was actually going to say *exactly* the same thing the rachel above said, which I think is just a very weird coinkydink.
The last favor I got was a picture frame that held my escort card. I left it behind at the end of the night.
I can’t really describe it well, but my my best friend has these trees in front of her house that have cones that look just like little wooden roses. We’ve been picking them up since we were kids. She attached ribbons to them and gave them out as Christmas ornaments at her wedding. Maybe not everyone loved them, but they were super-sentimental to a lot of us!
At the last wedding I attended, the bride made hand made truffles that were kept in bags that she designed on her own. The truffles were divine and the bag made it an even more personal touch, knowing that she had put so much time and effort into a gift to her guests. Edible favors are the best and she pulled it off fantastically.
I went to a destination wedding in Mexico and received a coaster set with a tropical scene on them. At first I thought I wouldn’t use them but I actually use them all the time!
The last wedding favor I received was a cute silver gift box which doubles as a Christmas ornament (the wedding was held the Sat. after Christmas). The boxes were filled with little chocolates. It was a good favor because it was functional and had an edible component.
The favor at the last wedding I went to was a shot glass… just a white shot glass, nothing on it. It was a little bizarre because it felt a little impersonal and a little like I was at a frat party. I didn’t even take it with me (I have plenty of shot glasses at home!)
The last wedding I went to omitted giving out favors and instead surprised everyone at the end of the night when servers came out of the kitchen carrying silver trays of warm gooey cookies and little crystal goblets of milk. It was adorable and the perfect way to end the evening. I love how elegantly the simple dessert was served.
The last two weddings I’ve been to haven’t had favors at all. This is actually the way were planning on going (unless we win an amazing contest!). The wedding before that we received pint jars of teriyaki sauce, made from a secret family recipe passed down through the bride’s family. She decorated the jars with vintage Japanese fabric and craft paper thank you gift tags. They were a hit and so cute! The sauce was great and we used it up within a week.
The last wedding favor I received was a big cookie with the couple’s initials on it. The reception left me full, so I took the cookie home. The cookie sat in a jar on my counter for a while, because it was too pretty to eat, but one evening a very pregnant friend came to visit and she kept eyeing the cookie!
She said it was delicious.
The past several weddings I’ve attended have not had favors at all. Some may think that’s lame, but I don’t mind at all! I’m with the commenter above in that I probably won’t have favors either unless I win an amazing contest.
I got a mix CD–it was perfect! i learned about a lot of great new songs!
The last wedding I attended, the favors were M&Ms. I loved this, and am considering the same favor for my own wedding. Honestly, who doesn’t like M&Ms? They are delicious, simple, and not too expensive! Plus, I love edible favors because a lot of other favors go to waste and are never used again.
The last wedding I attended had the best favors of any wedding I’ve ever been to. Not only were the menus made of chocolate (as a favor), but there were pashminas on the back of every lady’s chair, orchids to put in your hair or label, flip flops for dancing, a lucky silver dollar for each guest, and warm fresh donuts and milk on the way out the door. I was completely in awe…not to mention incredibly inspired!! I’ve got a lot to live up to…these cupcake mixes would be such a smash hit!!
Last wedding was in July and the bride’s sister made an assortment of truffles and gummy hearts. They were all individually packaged in boxes with ribbons matching their wedding colors. It was such a personal touch and the bride thanked her sister while pointing out each item to the guests and how excited she was about it. I think I liked them more after hearing about them too
the last favor i recieved was a silver bookmark. it was beautiful but i don’t have it anymore… i think edible favors are they way to go- you know people will enjoy them and it isn’t one more thing to have in your home.
I don’t really remember the last favor I got at a wedding. My fiance and I don’t live together and he ended up with it at the end of the night…I believe it may have been those heart shaped measuring spoons?
The last wedding I went to was my brother’s. They didn’t give away favors, but instead helped me pay for my plane ticket so I could come to the wedding. I thought it was a great favor because the most important thing to me was that I be there for their special day.
The last wedding I attended was a Hindu wedding. Our favors were little bags of fennel seed and sugar, and little sparkly sticker-dots. We got them right after a huge Indian dinner, so it was pretty much perfect to cleanse the palate and get rid of Indian food breath.
The last wedding I attended had custom shot glasses filled with custom m&m’s. The candy was nice on the drive home, the shot glass sits in a stack of unused shot glasses in my cupboard. The favor was good enough to remember but could have been better.
