Wild and Wonderful Washington State Park Styled Elopement

Posted on June 11, 2018 by Christina

Do you ever dream of scrapping your wedding plans and running away to the wilderness to elope? After viewing today’s styled shoot in Washington’s State’s Palouse Falls State Park, you just might just be packing your bags! Here’s what Laura Lango from Forthright Photo had to say about the shoot:

I designed the picnic set up after the idea of what someone might plan if they had already been through a big, traditional wedding once before. So often, I meet folks and they tell me they would have done everything differently about their wedding. They always speak wistfully about how they wanted to elope, and wanted something so much simpler and informal. I decided to try and bring the simple, uncomplicated, and untraditional to life for this shoot, and Artifact Rentals does all three of the above extraordinarily well; so after some brainstorming, we kept the details to a simple picnic by the river bank in order to keep the focus on the stunning landscape.

One thing I always kept in mind while dreaming up this shoot is that I wanted it to feel like an actual elopement, as opposed to a larger-than-life styled shoot. While planning a shoot purely to be fanciful inspiration is always fun, I’m hoping these images aren’t just one more image on Instagram that looks impossible to replicate, but is something that feels attainable, feels reasonably within reach. Who knows, maybe it will inspire some couple follow their wedding dreams, so that they don’t just wistfully mention eloping at cocktail parties as something they “wished we’d done.” Either way, we all had a blast making something a bit different from the usual!

The color scheme was born from a sheer lark: I picked the most unusual color combinations I could think of that I wouldn’t normally use, and the end result was our color palette: mustard yellow, dusty purple, charcoal, with some copper accents. Rose & Blossom didn’t blink twice at the unusual color wheel, and their team gave us the most stunning masterpiece of a bouquet that pulled together the striking colors.
