CD Wedding Favors: Tutorial and Free Template for CD Sleeve

January 7th, 2010 Christina Posted in DIY Wedding, Free Wedding Templates 2 Comments »

At our DIY wedding, we gave away CD’s (along with handmade soap) as wedding favors. They were a huge hit! We included about a dozen or so of our favourite songs. We used plastic cases for our CD’s, but I also love the idea of creating your own CD sleeve.

I found a tutorial for creating this paper CD sleeve over at Martha Writes. (She calls it easy peasy cd sleevey.) To dress them up, you could use fancy paper, and use a custom-made rubber stamp made with your names and wedding date to stamp the front.

You can also use the free template over at Benign Objects found via iDIY.

Another option? Head on over to Etsy Alchemy and have one of the talented Etsy artists custom make a CD sleeve just for you!

Free Wedding Templates: DIY Wedding Paper Fortune Cookies

June 26th, 2009 Christina Posted in DIY Wedding, Free Wedding Templates 1 Comment »

free wedding templates diy wedding

I admit it. Post-Chinese food, I usually crack open the fortune cookie just to see what’s inside. Often, I don’t eat the cookie because it’s stale and slightly musty. I just want to get at the secret message to read about how wise and insightful I am:)

I really like the idea of fortune cookies for weddings. Not necessarily the edible kind – although I’m sure the homemade ones are de-lish. I like the fabric fortune cookies, like the ones I blogged about over here. Or the ones made of paper.

I came across this fabulous free template for creating your own fortune cookie made out of paper over at Kind over Matter.

Although I love the concept of leaving these ‘kindness messages’ behind for strangers to find, I think these would make really fun favors or great for ‘Will you be my bridesmaid?’ messages. Simply customize with your own message.

And if you are making donations instead of giving wedding favors, wouldn’t this be a great way to let your guests know you are donating to charity?

Want hip, fun and earth-friendly envelopes that will be sure to impress your friends (i.e. wedding guests)? Make your own out of vintage books! Here is the full DIY wedding envelope tutorial. These would be perfect to send your save-the-dates or your thank you notes.

supplies for diy wedding envelope

You will need: Bone Folder, Glue Stick, Scissors, Rounded Corner Punch, Pencil, Ruler. (The Bone Folder and Rounded Corner Punch are not mandatory.)

vintage book for making envelope

Step One: Find a vintage book at a resale shop or garage sale. (I have a thing for children’s books.) Make sure that the book is big enough so that the template will fit over the pages.

Step Two: Print out the envelope template on card stock. This template will make 5.5″ x 4″ inch envelopes.

Step Three: Find a page that you like from the book. (If you want all the envelopes to be the same, simply make a copy of the page.)

Printable Candy Bar Wrappers … And They’re Free!

April 9th, 2009 Christina Posted in DIY Wedding, Free Wedding Templates No Comments »

free wedding template candy bar

I spent part of my morning strolling down the chocolate aisle at Shoppers Drug Mart. (It’s like Walgreens – except it’s Canadian.) My excuse? Easter. And since I have chocolate on the brain, (there’s a little bit on my shirt too), I thought I’d share printable candy bar wrappers from Rachel Ray. I think the design is lovely. Just click on the image and download the template.

You can also hop on over to Della Stella’s blog and learn how she made her printable candy bar wrappers. Amanda scanned a Hershey’s Special Dark label and modified it in Adobe Illustrator.

Free Wedding Templates: The Giving Tree Save-the-Dates

March 28th, 2009 Christina Posted in DIY Wedding, Free Wedding Templates 12 Comments »

the giving tree free template save the dates

Okay, I admit it. I have never read Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree ,but I do love the look of these save-the-dates. And guess what? They’re free for the taking.

I found this free wedding template over at Merriment Design - a lovely blog that’s all about sharing awesome craft and design ideas.

the giving tree book coverKathy, who owns the blog, explains that The Giving Tree save-the-dates were created by Adam Siegel for his fall nuptials. Apparently, Shel Silverstein’s
classic children’s book has special meaning to him and Cristin (his partner).

In the spirit of giving, Adam and Cristin are sharing their template for free. All that is requested is that anyone who uses it leaves a comment at Merriment Design or email Kathy at Merriment Design.

Here are the supplies that are needed:

For complete instructions on how to create your Giving Tree save-the-dates, go to Merriment Design.

Please note that if you don’t have Adobe Illustrator and you love this design, don’t give up! Perhaps you know a friend who is a graphic designer that could modify the text for you? Perhaps a talented Etysian could take on the task for a nominal fee?

Maybe there’s another book that has special meaning to you and your sweetie and this will spark some literary save-the -date ideas of your own! If so, let me know. I’d love to hear all about it.
