Jacek and Paulina’s Intimate Polish Wedding

Posted on February 24, 2017 by Christina

Jacek and Paulina did not want a traditional Polish wedding with people on their guest list that they barely knew. Instead, they opted for a heartfelt ceremony with just the two of them at the beautiful Tarce Palace, a Neo-Renaissance palace built in 1871, followed by a reception at a hometown restaurant with family and friends. Despite having some resistance from family members, the couple couldn’t have been happier with their decision.

Thanks to Dream Eye Studio for sending along the dreamy photos!

    tarce-poland-elopement-paulina-jacek-46

Why did you have an intimate wedding?

To relieve the stress of having a big wedding at a church, followed by a huge family reception.

    tarce-poland-elopement-paulina-jacek-32

    tarce-poland-elopement-paulina-jacek-40

What are some the challenges that you faced planning an intimate wedding?

Family acceptance was the hardest. Somehow everything else came through fairly easy. The Palace had a date open exactly where we wanted, the photographers had an opening as well and they were exactly who we wanted to accompany us during our wedding. The only “hiccup” could have been the fact that we had to find a hairdresser near the destination and pick up flowers on the way to the Palace, but those things went even better than expected, despite a little bit of stress.

    tarce-poland-elopement-paulina-jacek-57

Was it difficult to pare down the guest list?

Yes, since we only wanted closest family to avoid the stress of traditional Polish Christian wedding.

    tarce-poland-elopement-paulina-jacek-8

Did you have any ‘issues’ with the small guest list from friends and family? If so, how did you address them?

We only invited closest family members that we have contact on regular basis. No distant family seen once a year.

We invited a limited amount of family and some were not happy with that. For friends, we had a separate party and we did not have to limit our list as we wanted anyone who would have a good time with us.

What was the best thing about having an intimate wedding?

What advice do you have for couples who are considering an intimate wedding?

Check with your family. If they will not hold a lifelong grudge, do it. It is your day. I know too many couples not happy with their wedding day because they were pressured into having a big wedding as expected from their families. I can honestly say, our wedding was the best one I have ever attended 🙂

Maria and Hani’s Stunning Elopement in Corfu, Greece

Posted on February 20, 2017 by Christina

Have you ever thought of having a destination wedding or elopement in Greece? After seeing Maria and Hani’s wedding, you might just start packing your bags!

Maria and Hani chose the picturesque island of Corfu for their gorgeous September elopement. With its stunning landscape and crystal clear seas, as well as its rich history and cosmopolitan vibe, Corfu is considered one of the most beautiful and popular islands within Greece.

A big thank you to Anna from Rosmarin Weddings and Events for submitting this lovely wedding, and to Olga Creative for the gorgeous photos.

    corfu-greece-elopement-mari-and-hani-4

Why did you have an intimate wedding?

Because we are from different countries and have different cultures which are hard to fit into one event with guests from both sides. So we choose an elopement to do something special, just for the two of us.

What are some the challenges that you faced planning an intimate wedding?

The most “extreme” thing was that we arrived in Corfu by cruise ship on the day of our wedding and had to leave on the same evening. So were very anxious not to lose the boat. But everything went very smoothly for us. The villa was beautiful and helped us to relax and really enjoy our day.

Was it difficult to pare down the guest list?

It was not hard for us because we knew that it would be difficult for our families to travel. Not everybody can afford to come to a destination wedding; there are high travel expenses which we were prepared to cover. We did consider inviting a couple of friends, but in the the end we chose to spend the day with only each other.

Did you have any ‘issues’ with the small guest list from friends and family? If so, how did you address them?

We didn’t because our families accepted our decision from the beginning and understood us. We also had a small party in our hometown with our closest friends.

What were the highlights of the ceremony?

I would say the Corfu heat 😉 Really that day (despite that it was at the end of September) was incredibly hot. But the fact that the ceremony was on the beach saved us a bit because we had a refreshing breeze from the sea. And of course the vows that we said to each other. We didn’t prepare them; we spoke spontaneously from our heart, telling one another how we feel. It was really a touching moment.

    corfu-greece-elopement-mari-and-hani-88

What were the highlights of the reception?

First, the décor. We were really surprised how lovely the table looked! Yes, we discussed it with our planner Anna during planning but the final look exceeded our expectations. And also the food! It was really delicious, we had a lot of compliments for the chef!

    corfu-greece-elopement-mari-and-hani-98

What was the best thing about having an intimate wedding?

An elopement was just about the two of us and how we felt about each other. And there was no need for anything else. Additional worries about guests and if they were happy and comfortable etc. was avoided. We had a beautiful elopement and a memorable cruise around the Mediterranean Sea. What more could we wish for?

What advice do you have for couples who are considering an intimate wedding?

Have courage. Don’t be afraid that somebody will not understand or will be offended. It’s the two of you who will go together in life hand in hand. And you shouldn’t feel guilty if somebody doesn’t understand that.

    Smith Rock Elopement Styled Shoot

Posted on February 17, 2017 by Christina

When photographer Dawn Sikhamsouk sent over this dreamy styled shoot from Oregon’s breathtaking Smith Rock State Park, we knew that our readers would be just as smitten as we are!

Here’s what Dawn had to say about the shoot:

Known as one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon, Smith Rock is located in Terrebonne, Oregon which is right outside of Bend. It’s an amazing place for people to take in the view, connect with nature, and even for those who want a thrill. The earthy tones and dramatic views are what inspired me for this shoot. Intimate weddings and elopements give the chance for unforgettable moments in incredible places that call to you.

The bouquets/flowers were full and wild, it really helped to contrast elegance with the beauty but ruggedness of this desert location. Fall colors and fruits inspired the palette with figs and pomegranate being the basis for colors (burgundy, blush, cream, and some greens) along with hints of silver to add a timelessness to the moody bohemian style.

We used rocks in the area to hold the food board and cake stand, nature’s perfect tables! In addition we set up a table with oversized cushions for the couple to eat at and cut their cake. The place cards consist of elegant hand lettering with torn edges, topped with geodes to bring hints of the location back into the scene. One of my favorite parts of the table is the silver antler I saw last minute that actually changed what I had planned for the centerpiece.

The naked cake adds a simple beauty to the scene, reminding us that less can really be more — and really yummy.

Nothing is better than telling the story of two people sharing their love in a beautiful location.
