    Romantic Boho Styled Shoot

Posted on April 5, 2019 by Christina

Shot at the rustic and beautiful Owl Creek Farms in Temecula, Ca, this boho-inspired styled shoot is full of gorgeous one-of-a-kind details from talented artisans, including a stunning macrame backdrop and macrame veil, a handmade his and hers vow books and lovely florals including a dreamy protea and mixed flower bouquet.

Here’s what Melissa Fe Chapman Photography had to say about the shoot:

It all started when I came across the amazing designs created by San Diego macrame artist, Stacy Summer Malimban, owner of Knotty by Nature. She creates timeless pieces that I knew would be the perfect addition to this bohemian shoot! She recently launched her Bridal Collection and some of her pieces were incorporated in the styled photoshoot at Owl Creek Farms. These elegant pieces complimented the modern bohemian styled wedding and included an extra large six foot by 6 foot macrame backdrop that hung beautifully on a red mahogany wooden arbor, a gorgeous macrame bridal bouquet wrap that can be repurposed to be a centerpiece on the sweetheart table after the ceremony, and macrame coasters that are a wonderful addition to the reception tablescape decor … Stacy created a stunning double layered macrame bridal veil that complimented the custom designed bridal gown by eco-conscious Bridal designer, @krustalloscouture.

Kristin Smith Floral Concepts brought forth her creativity by creating a dreamy boho bouquet that consisted of a assortment of protea, waxflower, garden roses, Ecuadorian roses, pampas grass and silver dollar eucalyptus. She also designed a beautiful arrangement to pair with the macrame backdrop along with a luscious centerpiece for the table scape. In addition, the boutonniere she created looked amazing against the rose colored tux by Friar’s Tux. The rose colored jacket brought the perfect amount of romance and masculinity to the Groom’s attire.

Keeping the Bride and Groom looking fresh and their best the entire day, hair and make up artist, Juanita from @brides_grooms_by_jlo , used a rose tinted lip color to compliment the Groom’s jacket and tied in the Romantic feel of the wedding. The beautiful Bride’s soft curls bounced freely and looked amazing with the macrame veil.

The beautiful handmade his and hers vow books added an extra touch of romance along with the intricate details of the invitation suite made using Kraft paper by the talented Sam Allen Creates. A wedding wouldn’t be complete without the sweet elements of the day, Miranda’s Sweet Treats is a home baker that outdid herself with this beautifully designed cake. The fondant sage, cream and marbeled pink design complimented the color palette perfectly. Topped with fresh florals provided by Kristin Smith Floral Concepts.

In addition, Doug from @dougsdrinks / @clarkescocktails  concocted some amazing signature drinks that not only looked beautiful but tasted delicious.

Le Petit Jardin Vintage + LPJ Rentals Stylist and provided the rentals for the beautiful lounge area and tablescape, including the triangle arch for the reception table. Each accent piece and furniture was chosen carefully to tie the Bohemian vibe to the shoot.

Lastly, there was no doubt Owl Creek Farms was the perfect venue for this Bohemian wedding. This hidden gem is a working 40 acre farm located in the Temecula Valley with rolling Pomegranate Groves, Lavender & Blackberry fields waiting to be picked and harvested for wine, jams and soaps.

    Martina and Zdenek’s Icelandic Elopement

Posted on April 1, 2019 by Christina

If Iceland is on your bucket list, why not get married there? That’s what Zdenek and Martina did. Although the weather was challenging, the couple didn’t let it get in the way of having an unforgettable experience with their closest family members by their side.

Here’s what photographer Nicole Thomson from Map + Compass Photography had to say about the day:

Zdenek and Martina got engaged at Dyrhólaey lighthouse in August 2017 and immediately knew they wanted to get married in Iceland. My email correspondence began with Zdenek and Martina in January. I spent months planning via email and FaceTime with them to ensure their day was as they pictured. They live in Prague and I live in Texas, so communication was key!

The initial plan was for them to get married on Reynisfjara Beach, but the weather was too bad. The wind and waves are often too strong on Reynisfjara Beach for it to be safe, resulting in it being closed! The waves sneak up and the sand can easily be blown in your face, resulting in cuts and various other issues. The wind was 40 mph that day and I have video footage to prove it! As a result, I had to improvise and I suggested the little church up on the hill was the best option, rather than the indoor courthouse. They had a very brief and cold ceremony, before heading to Suður-Vík for a bit to eat with their family.

Due to the horrible weather, we did a day-after shoot in the north and northwestern part of Iceland, exploring off the beaten path hiking trials and a common destination, such as Budir Church. I loved being able to pull off the side of the road, without tourists around to explore and shoot. Really a dream come true in comparison to the busier parts of Iceland!

    Martina, 30 & Zdenek, 35

    Location: Vik, Iceland

    Wedding Date: August 27, 2018

    Number of Guests: 5

    Wedding Cost: $9,000 USD

    Wedding Ceremony Location: Vik, Iceland

    Wedding Reception Location: Vik, Iceland

Why did you have an intimate wedding?

We love to travel and that was the main reason why we decided to have a wedding abroad! We wanted the focus to be on ourselves and for our family to fully enjoy the moment.

What are some the challenges that you faced planning an intimate wedding?

The biggest challenge was dealing with all required paperwork to have the wedding recognized as legal in our country, the Czech Republic since we legally got married in Iceland. There was tons of paperwork involved that made it complicated! We are used to planning and organizing our on trips, so it was also challenging to organize a trip for 7 people instead of 2!

Was it difficult to pare down the guest list?

The guest list for the wedding itself was very easy. Just us, our parents and the groom’s daughter!

Did you have any ‘issues’ with the small guest list from friends and family? If so, how did you address them?

Not at all. Everything went smoothly.

What were the highlights of the ceremony?

Definitely the weather! I think we will never forget the weather on our wedding day because it was very cold, windy and rainy! We weren’t able to get married on the black sand beach as planned due to the rain and wind. We didn’t want to get married outside, so Nicole, our photographer, saw a small church we nestled up against outside to protect us from some of the weather! We had our portraits taken the following day due to how bad the weather was.

Nicole was key in organizing the timeline of the day and making sure everything went as smooth as possible, despite the weather. She had a great attitude and was extremely resourceful with suggesting the outdoor ceremony location and all the locations during our portraits.

What were the highlights of the reception?

We just had lunch with our family at a nearby restaurant, close to the ceremony place. Best thing about it was getting warm:)

What was the best thing about having an intimate wedding?

We paired our wedding with a family vacation! Best thing about it was the time we spent together, exploring beautiful places of Iceland and enjoying each other. Our parents haven’t traveled a lot, so we planned the trip with them in mind!

What advice do you have for couples who are considering an intimate wedding?

Be prepared that your organization skills will be tested to the limit but it will definitely be worth it!  There will be a smile on your face each time you remember even the things that went wrong 🙂 Invest in a photographer like Nicole of Map + Compass who is resourceful and able to help with the planning along the way! It will make the day that much enjoyable and memorable!

Carrie Lynn and Blake’s Intimate Tennessee Wedding

Posted on March 29, 2019 by Christina

Carrie Lynn and Blake’s beautiful love story proves that you can find love after loss; the two had both lost spouses in recent years. Knowing that their wedding would be an emotional affair, and having seen firsthand the stress that comes with a large wedding (Carrie Lynn helped to plan her daughter’s 400-guest wedding), the couple opted for an intimate, private wedding, surrounded by 20 of their closest friend and family members.

This gorgeous wedding is a must-see, filled with beautiful details (like the breathtaking bouquets by bydanielle) and heartfelt moments (Blake’s pilot instructor did a “fly over” in the middle of the ceremony!). Thanks to Laklin Brooke Photography for capturing this special day!

    Carrie Lynn, 47 & Blake, 50

    Location: Spring Hill, TN

    Wedding Date: August 18, 2018

    Number of guests: 20

    Wedding cost: $9,000

Ceremony Location: Northside Lawn of Rippavilla Plantation

Wedding Reception Location: On the brick patio in the back of the Rippavilla Plantation

Why did you have an intimate wedding?

Due to losing both of our spouses recently, my husband and I knew we wanted a private intimate service from the start. We understood that this would be a very emotional day for all involved and we wanted to focus on the most important people in our lives– our parents, children, and grandchildren.

What are some of the challenges you faced planning an intimate wedding?

Because I had planned a previous wedding for my daughter three years earlier with a guest list of 400, I knew the stress that a large wedding could carry. Planning an intimate wedding such as this was very easy, stress-free, and had very little challenges, if any.

       intimate tennessee wedding

Was it difficult to pare down the guest list?

It was difficult at first, due to the fact that we both had siblings and close friends that are dear to us, and it was hard leaving them out.

Did you have any “issues” with the small guest list from friends and family? If so, how did you address them?

We did not. From the very beginning, we knew that we wanted a private, intimate wedding, so we expressed our wishes up front to our family and closest friends. They were very supportive. I felt that including them in our decision up front helped keep issues from arising.

What were the highlights of the ceremony?

My husband is a pilot, so his pilot instructor, who was also a dear friend, did a “fly over” in the middle of our ceremony, which was very special to us.

What were the highlights of the reception?

Our grandsons, age one and two, ended up playing in the water fountain, and our photographer captured some of the sweetest pictures.

What was the best thing about having an intimate wedding?

Because we were having a small wedding, finances were not an issue; therefore, we were able to have everything we wanted in our wedding. We didn’t have to choose what we could have or not have. Also, because our guest list was small, we felt like we got to spend personal time with each and every person there during the reception.

What advice do you have for couples who are considering an intimate wedding?

My advice for other couples would be to be honest and upfront with your reasoning for wanting an intimate service. I believe that it kept us from having hurt feelings and unnecessary drama; therefore, we were able to enjoy the planning and carrying out of our special day. Do not let the opinions of others persuade you. Do what you want, so that YOU have everything you want! My main suggestion would be to GO FOR IT!
