Sarah and Patrick’s Intimate Waterfall Ceremony

Posted on July 21, 2017 by Emily

From their first date to their proposal, waterfalls have been a big part of Sarah and Patrick’s relationship, so it was only fitting that they get married by one!

“My first date with Patrick was at a waterfall (Burgess falls in Cookeville). He initially wanted to go to a nice restaurant, but I changed it up a bit. Waterfalls are just so relaxing to me, so I thought it would make a first date much less awkward. Our first kiss was at a waterfall (the Waterloo in Cookeville). First kisses are usually awkward, but–again, much less awkward in front of a waterfall. Patrick proposed by a waterfall–Greeter Falls. And eventually we chose to get married by a waterfall–Twin Falls at Rock Island. Patrick is my forever waterfall date!”

Kudos to photographer Erin Turner for capturing the couple’s intimate ceremony so beautifully.

    Sarah, 27, & Patrick, 28

Location: Rock Island State Park, Rock Island, TN

Wedding Date: May 12, 2017 (Getting married on the 12th of any month is a tradition in Patrick’s family)

    Number of Guests: 17

Wedding Ceremony Location: Rock Island State Park, Rock Island, TN

Why did you have an intimate wedding?

We chose to have an intimate wedding because it was more our style–outdoorsy. It made more sense to have it as small as possible just so we could enjoy such a special day by a waterfall. Waterfalls are very special to us! Neither of us are super flashy people, so the smaller the better! And of course I don’t like a lot of attention, so an intimate wedding didn’t have the added pressure. The waterfall and the surrounding nature provided us with the best decor at no cost. It certainly made the moment much less stressful and more special!

What are some the challenges that you faced planning an intimate wedding?

I wanted a ceremony that would closely match my relationship with Patrick: an adventure. We both love the outdoors and I absolutely adore waterfalls. I feel so at peace out in nature. It was difficult to find a state park that would allow us to have a small ceremony just the way we wanted it—down by the waterfall. We also had a 100% chance of rain, but it didn’t rain on us until the very last photo.

Was it difficult to pare down the guest list?

It was difficult to prepare a small guest list for the private ceremony since there are so many people dear to our hearts. It was also difficult to create a list for the reception because we absolutely didn’t want to leave anyone out—but we still managed to leave quite a few people out.

    intimate waterfall wedding ceremony

Did you have any ‘issues’ with the small guest list from friends and family? If so, how did you address them?

We didn’t have many issues arise from the small guest list. No one was offended by not being invited, but it was a little inconvenient to some since it was 40 minutes away from the reception. But we really didn’t have many issues arise, fortunately.

What were the highlights of the ceremony?

Patrick was the highlight of the wedding – but I would say that spending time with Erin and getting our photos taken was definitely a great time as well.

What was the best thing about having an intimate wedding?

The best thing about having a small ceremony was definitely the personal feel. It definitely fit our personalities and was very significant on a personal level with my faith in God (I feel closest with Him while enjoying nature) and Patrick’s outdoorsy-ness.

What advice do you have for couples who are considering an intimate wedding?

DO IT!!! Intimate weddings make the best photos and memories. Choose your photographer wisely. Erin was the perfect fit and was more than excited to go on this journey with it. GIVE IT A CHANCE regardless of the weather. Also, change into your dress at the site, but be prepared with some Chaco’s on hand and some shout wipes just in case your dress gets dirty.

Karly and Phillip’s Secret Garden Vow Renewal

Posted on July 17, 2017 by Christina

Grab the Kleenex ladies; Karly and Phillip’s vow renewal story is a real tearjerker! In fact, the story won the couple a styled vow renewal by Beloved and Company. Here’s what photographer Gabrielle Hall had to say about the shoot:

Karly and Phillip’s emotional, honest, full to the brim love story won over our hearts and it was an honor to be able to give them this experience. Here is what Karly had to say about their relationship.

“Our story is pretty simple, love will heal all. My husband and I were married October 1, 2015. July 2016 he was admitted to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He hasn’t been able to work in over a year and medication doesn’t help. The doctors still can’t figure out exactly what’s wrong, but they’re calling it “Post Viral Syndrome”. My husband lives with an unknown invisible illness that only I can see. We’re crazy in love because we have gotten to the place where one of us cannot live without the other. He needs love and snuggles and a calm voice when the pain in too bad. I need love and support and encouragement to provide for our family. A newlywed couple never expects to put their vows to the test so soon – for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. Our vows are more than just words that were spoken, but a way of life and the way we love. “

Needless to say, I knew we had to pull out all of the stops for their vow renewal. Immediately, the idea of The Secret Garden came to mind. As one of my favorite childhood stories, The Secret Garden is a place of healing and magic. We created a magical oasis for Karly and Phillip to focus on their love and reaffirm their vows at the local southern plantation, Annadele’s. This old, historic home with manicured hedges and flowering trees was the perfect setting. We kept the design minimal, modern and romantic with succulent filled arrangements from the talented Berry Blossom Flowers, black tapered candles, a four tiered naked cake piled high with florals, and a finale of black smoke bombs. Phillip wore his suit and Karly wore her stunning one shouldered, ethereal wedding gown.

Their love was infectious and the waterworks started (for everyone involved) as they read handwritten love letters to each other. They spoke of love, dedication, hope, comfort, laughter and how their love is expanding and growing with their unborn baby. Yes, Karly and Phillip just found out they were expecting their first child. An already emotional day turned overwhelming with this declaration and their vow renewal had now taken on a profound new meaning of life and love. After all, love will heal all.

Ashley and Daniel’s California Ranch Elopement

Posted on July 14, 2017 by Kate

Ashley and Daniel had been guests at too many weddings where the focus wasn’t on the couple getting married, but the party afterwards.

“We both agreed that a marriage is about two people and wanted our ceremony to reflect that,” Ashley explains.

The couple chose to keep things simple by having a romantic elopement with no guests at the beautiful Beltane Ranch in Sonoma, California.

“It was so relaxing and we were able to just focus on each other the entire day,” says Ashley.

Thanks to Megan Clouse Photography for giving us a glimpse of this gorgeous day with an equally gorgeous couple!

    Ashley, 30 & Daniel, 31

    Location: Glen Ellen, CA

    Wedding Date: April 6, 2017

    Number of Guests: None

Wedding Cost: $9,500 including hair/make-up, dress, suit, photographer, videographer, and venue fee.

    Wedding Ceremony Location: Beltane Ranch

Why did you have an intimate wedding?

We both agreed that a marriage is about two people and wanted our ceremony to reflect that. We have been to a lot of weddings where the party after is the main focus rather than the monumental promises the couple is making to each other.

What are some the challenges that you faced planning an intimate wedding?

It was actually much easier than we thought it would be. So many great places cater to couples that want to elope, it was really just finding what spot we loved most. I was fortunate enough to be put into contact with fantastic vendors.

Was it difficult to pare down the guest list?

When we initially debated if we should have a few select people there, it became difficult as to where we draw the line.  It was much easier when we decided to have no guests.

Did you have any “issues” with the small guest list from friends and family? If so, how did you address them?

Our family was actually really supportive about us choosing to elope.  Our mothers we knew wanted to be there and that’s why we decided to get a videographer.  We had a reception party a couple weeks later when we got back and were able to show our wedding video.  Everyone loved it and it made them feel like they were able to witness it.

What were the highlights of the ceremony?

For both of us, the highlights were the vows.  We wrote them separately the night before and were both so nervous about them.  Saying what we mean to each other and promising to love each other for our entire lives was so emotional and special to us.

What was the best thing about having an intimate wedding?

The lack of stress! We got up, had breakfast together, and laid around.  It was so relaxing and we were able to just focus on each other the entire day.

What advice do you have for couples who are considering an intimate wedding?

Do it! While we were fortunate enough to have family who supported our decision, we know that’s not the case for others. Splurge on a great photographer and videographer so you can make people who weren’t invited feel like they were part of it. Remember what the wedding is really about and all the extra stuff of a huge wedding just doesn’t seem that important anymore.
