    Think Pink! Wedding Dress Inspiration

Posted on January 15, 2014 by Giselle

Fuchsia, blush and rose… These are probably not the first shades that you think of for a wedding dress. But that was before Vera Wang dedicated her Fall 2014 bridal collection to all things pink; so maybe it deserves a rethink. When thinking of pink, the mind wanders from delicate roses to bright Barbie shoes. We know that pink works well in wedding themes but can it work on a wedding dress? Well, of course. As long as you pick the right shade for your skin tone and style.

Fuchsia is bold, but to avoid it from falling into the Barbie realm keep the look modern with simple wedding hair and makeup and silver jewelry. Soft pastel shades are feminine, and blush tones are a great alternative to white and  ivory for the color shy. Textures provide a different dimension and really stand out with pale pink dresses.

Posted on January 14, 2014 by china

    cream cheese mints
These melt-in-your-mouth mints are a simple, classic candy that make any table look elegant. This recipe is so easy that it only takes a few minutes to whip up and only a few easy ingredients! Perfect wedding favors, don’t you think?

Ingredients: (This recipe was inspired by Haley at the CheapRecipeBlog.)

    • 1 8-ounce package cream cheese, at room temperature
    • 1 2-pound bag of powdered/confectioners sugar
    • Food flavoring (peppermint, almond, butter rum and vanilla )
    • Food coloring
    • Granulated sugar, for coating mints

Add cream cheese to a large mixing bowl. Begin adding powdered sugar and mix using an electric mixer until the mixture is the consistency of play dough.  If the dough is sticky, add more powdered sugar.

Laid-Back Bali Destination Wedding: Ashley and Matthew

Posted on January 13, 2014 by Gaelan

As the founders and operators of the Mala Collective – a company that believes in spreading the ideals of conscious living through sustainably harvested, fairly traded, and ethically produced handmade jewelry from Bali – Ashley and Matthew have a truly special connection to the Indonesian island. So, when it came time to plan their nuptials, it goes without saying that a destination wedding in Bali was the obvious choice.

Filled with good friends, lots of champagne, and a group of local fire-dancers, the couple’s wedding day was as laid-back and unique as the island itself. Not even a little rain could dampen their spirits, because, as the bride perfectly put it, when you’re on a beach in Bali surrounded by your family and friends, what can really go wrong?

Special thanks to Gusde Photography for all the beautiful photos!

    Intimate Bali Destination Wedding

    Ashley, 26 & Matthew, 26

    Bali, Indonesia

    Wedding Date: July 14, 2013

Number of Guests: There were 13 of us for dinner. After dinner and speeches, all of the staff who helped prepare the evening got changed into their traditional dress and came down to celebrate and dance with us!

Wedding Cost: Hmm, this one’s a bit grey. The wedding itself cost around $5,000. That was for the ceremony, reception, and also included the retreat day we had the day before the wedding. We had a private outdoor yoga class in the morning, followed by a beautiful Balinese lunch at a restaurant down the street. Then the men went surfing, and the women had foot massages overlooking the ocean. Flights and accommodation were extra.

Wedding Ceremony Location: The wedding ceremony was on Bingin Beach, Bali. We found the spot the day after we landed. It was at the end of the beach, so it was a bit more private (it’s a popular surf beach, so it’s usually really busy). We chose a beautiful spot tucked away between some large rocks. We found out after the ceremony, as we were taking photos, that there was a beautiful cove tucked behind the rocks – perfect for our wedding photos!

Wedding Reception Location: The reception was up on the cliff, overlooking the beach. We got married at our friend’s house, Villa Soma. We met Soma on a plane two years ago. We were wearing some beautiful mala bead jewelry, and she happened to be the woman who made it. Long story short, I have since quit my job to help her spread the love of these mala beads, and Matt and I have started Mala Collective. Soma believes the mala bead jewelry provides peace and a calmer mind, body and spirit – an idea which we loved. Returning to her house to get married was only the second time we’ve met her, but it feels like she’s been a part of our lives forever.

Paint it Pretty: Hand Painted Wedding Cakes

Posted on January 9, 2014 by Gaelan

We think you’ll agree with us when we say that wedding cakes are not merely sweet treats to feed your guests at the end of the night, but truly works of art. And the cake designers who create these masterpieces are nothing short of artists, skilled in the sculptural art of sugar and fondant. So it seems only natural that they would incorporate a variety of artistic techniques into their creations, including painting.

While hand painted cakes have been slowly popping up on blogs and Pinterest over the last couple of years, they are now quickly becoming one of the hottest trends in wedding cakes–and from looking at all the stunning examples below, it’s easy to see why!
