    Baby’s Breath Bouquet

Posted on April 9, 2010 by Christina

    baby's breath centerpiece

I have only recently discovered the baby’s breath bouquet, and I love what I see!

When it’s come to wedding flowers, baby’s breath might just be the new carnation. Like carnations, baby’s breath is not exactly glamorous. In fact, it has a reputation for being a cheapo filler flower. But en masse – wonderful!

To me, a bouquet of baby’s breath reminds me of gentle snowflakes or delicate lace. Perfect for a wedding!

If you’d like to learn how make a baby’s breath bouquet, check out this tutorial over at Real Simple.

Meantime, feast your eyes on these lovely creations!

    Something Blue, Something Peeking Through

Posted on April 6, 2010 by Christina

    blue crinoline

Looking for something blue for your wedding day? What about a blue crinoline?

Wanderluster over at Rambling Renovators opted for a blue crinoline. And she dyed it herself.

“All it took was a package of Rit Dye and my washing machine. I loved how it peeked out when we did our first dance,” she writes.

BTW, I’ve written about some of Wanderluster’s other great wedding ideas over here.

    DIY Candy Gemstones

Posted on April 5, 2010 by Christina

    diy candy jewels

I saw candy gemstones over at Martha Stewart and knew that I had to make my own.

Now, I’m no candy makin’ pro. In fact, the first time I made hard candy was only a few months ago when I made sea glass candy. I figured these wouldn’t be much more difficult.

I used the same recipe as the sea glass candy to make the candy gemstones, and the molds were provided to me by Fancy Flours.

I found the candy making part pretty easy – it was pouring it into the molds that I found a bit challenging. You have to be pretty quick, or the candy will start to set. You also have to be delicate enough when you pour the candy so that the molds don’t overflow.

Being the impatient gal that I am, I put the molds into the refrigerator after pouring the candy. When they were good and hard I took them out of the fridge and tried to pop them out of the well-oiled molds. I found that some of the candies didn’t come out of the molds perfectly and left a bit of candy residue inside the mold. I’m not sure if this would have happened if I would have let them set at room temperature.

Overall, I liked the look of the candy (and the taste!), but next time I would let them set on the counter and see if they released any better.

    DIY Candy Jewels Tutorial

Make candy using the sea glass candy recipe. (I made grape and rootbeer.)

Oil your candy molds. I used canola oil.

When candy is done, pour into a heat resistant measuring cup.

    Pour candy into gemstone molds.

    Let the candy harden.

Pop out of molds when ready.

    Enjoy!

As for me, I’m going on a scavenger hunt today – not for Easter eggs, but for sea glass.

    Have a wonderful Easter weekend!
