Cesar + Kerry Intimate Central Park Wedding

Posted on December 21, 2015 by Stephanie

Cesar and Kerry were clear in their vision of wanting an intimate wedding where they could mingle with their beloved friends and family. They married in Central Park and celebrated the night away at a local restaurant, The Kimberly Hotel. They finished their night at a Jazz club, a perfect ending to Cesar and Kerry’s glamorous evening.

Thank you to Amber, of Amber Marlow Photography, for sharing this beautiful Central Park wedding with us.

Why did you have an intimate wedding?

We were originally going to elope. We knew all along that we wanted our closest friends and family to come… Narrowing our list and making the tough decision of who was on the guest list was a major challenge.

What are some of the challenges that you faced planning an intimate wedding?

The major one was the venue for our meal after the ceremomy. Lots of places were too small, too average, too big, too expensive etc… We wanted a bit of sophistication, luxury, ‘wow’ factor, atmosphere and intimacy.  All for our quantity of guests and budget!!  Not too much to ask?!!! I did a lot of research.

central-park-ny-intimate-wedding-cesar-kerry-55central-park-ny-intimate-wedding-cesar-kerry-52Was it difficult to pare down the guest list?

Not really, with family and friends coming from the UK on the brides side, we had a big engagement party the month before for everyone. Then we invited a select group that we wanted to come – some couldn’t make it, due to various reasons (cost of the trip, school holidays etc…). On the grooms side we invited more than we could afford to have which worked out fine. As with most parties/events you will always have a drop out on numbers. We had some unfortunate cancellations.

central-park-ny-intimate-wedding-cesar-kerry-45What were the highlights of the ceremony?

The bride: Listening to the guitar music as my dad and I walked up the little hill. Then seeing Cesar and everyone in Cop Cot. Hearing Cesar say his promises and then the excitement at the end of the ceremony (it felt like it was just us in that moment) was special and both of us couldn’t quite believe it had just happened!!

The groom: Seeing Kerry as she arrived with her father; I felt instant joy.  When I looked in her eyes and held her hand in front of friends and family was the highlight of my day.  I would say I felt everything was going to be okay and I had nothing to worry about as long as we were together.

What were the highlights of the reception?

We were trying to steer away from traditions but in the end we ended up picking some traditions and doing them in our own way. Cutting the cake turned out to be super fun! We were thinking of not doing it but was great! So glad I ordered that cake! The speeches were nice. Cesar did a little intro speech thanking everyone for being there, then the best man stood up and gave a speech and then my mum did a speech – in Spanish and then English. Cesar’s Hispanic family and friends appreciated the effort my mum went to. The great thing about the reception area we chose was the balance of space and mingling – we were pleased how everyone was moving around and not staying in their seats, chatting and having fun – that was great.

    Also, the food was great!!!

What was the best thing about having an intimate wedding?

That we got to speak to everyone there and there was a fantastic mixing of families and friends who had not met before.

    central-park-ny-intimate-wedding-cesar-kerry-23
central park weddingWhat advice do you have for couples who are considering an intimate wedding?

Consider which details are really important to you. We could have spent less on the meal venue but it hit the right note for us. We couldn’t have music there unless we hired the whole floor but that was fine as there was a DJ. We knew we then wanted to head off to a Jazz club after which turned out to be a fantastic end. We also liked the relaxed feel of having the general public in the area next to us. Partitioning an area worked really well for intimacy but also cut costs. We also chose a photographer who got the right balance of capturing the formal photos as well as the intimate pictures alone that we wanted.

Just because your wedding is smaller – don’t try and do everything!!

What are some of the challenges that you faced planning an intimate wedding?

I thought I could plan and organize it all with ease. I kept it simple, but Lauren at Lovegood Weddings definitely helped out tremendously when I became overwhelmed and was working on last minute details.

What were the highlights of the ceremony?

The highlights were our unscripted wedding vows, and the wine/whiskey barrels were amazing and a nice change from the usual arches found at most beach weddings.

What was the best thing about having an intimate wedding?

The simplicity of it all and having our families there to celebrate our new life together. It was also nice because instead of spending a lot of money on one or two days for a traditional wedding, we spent money on a 5 day, 4 night vacation/celebration for everyone. We all had a wonderful time and the day of the wedding was stress free.

What advice do you have for couples who are considering an intimate wedding?

A small, intimate wedding is the way to go. Your wallet (and your parents) will thank you later. You will spend a pretty penny, as you should, but it won’t get too outrageous. Try to keep it as simple and as romantic as possible and enjoy the moment. Your wedding day is really all about the bride and the groom and an intimate wedding really celebrates that, and the guests get to enjoy themselves as well.

    Win a Trip to Sonoma!

Posted on December 16, 2015 by Christina

    sonoma sweepstakes win

As a wine lover, a trip to Sonoma, California was on my bucket list. I love a good California Cab – and the thought of enjoying a glass or two under the Sonoma sun is downright distracting. Needless to say, when my inbox lit up with an opportunity to experience Sonoma with other wedding and lifestyle bloggers, my dopamine receptors were firing on all cylinders.

Being a wedding blogger is far from glamorous (many of us work at home, alone, wearing black yoga pants covered in animal hair), our daily routine is pretty mundane. Now and then, however, a little glitter is sprinkled our way in the form of a press trip. Those are the moments that make it all worthwhile. And this opportunity kicked it up a notch.

Instead of simply hiring bloggers to write a sponsored post about the Coming Home to Sonoma Sweepstakes, the folks over at Williams-Sonoma, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, and Fortessa, the brands behind the giveaway, reckoned it was a good idea for bloggers to experience that giveaway for themselves. That way they could authentically describe the experience to their readers. A pretty novel idea, in my books.

The partnership between Williams-Sonoma, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, and Fortessa is all about bringing people who are interested in food, wine, travel and entertaining a total experience. The Coming Home to Sonoma Sweepstakes is truly a celebration of that partnership. Before I tell you all about how you can have a chance for you and your sweetie to experience a weekend of luxury under the Sonoma sun, let me give you a little run of what you will win.

The Coming Home to Sonoma Sweepstakes includes:

    • Domestic Airfare for Two
    • Three days, two nights at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn
    • VIP Tour and Cooking Classes at Williams-Sonoma
    • VIP tour and wine tasting at Silver Oak Winery
    • Two dinners at some of the finest restaurants in Sonoma

The Approximate Retail Value of the Prize is $4,999 USD.

Here’s how it all unfolded for me:

I arrived at The Fairmont Mission Hill Sonoma feeling a bit jet lagged – but once I set foot on the luxurious grounds, it didn’t take me long to perk up. The Fairmont Mission Hill Sonoma was built in the style of California’s early missions back in the 1920’s. A major renovation in the late 20th century returned the inn to its 1920’s grandeur, and in the early 1990’s, the Boyes Hot Springs, 135°F natural artesian mineral water, was discovered on the site of the inn. These geothermal springs are used by the inn today in the pools and whirlpools. Sadly, I didn’t have time to experience the hot springs – but if I won this trip, it would be at the top of my list – along with the dinner at the Fairmont, of course, where the food is downright delish!

    sonoma mission inn

    fairmont sonoma mission

The events officially kicked off the evening of our arrival, when bloggers met up for champagne on the hotel grounds. After a few sips of bubbly, we were whisked away to The Girl and the Fig’s Suite D in down-town Sonoma, where we enjoyed an incredible meal in an amazing setting! (Elegant glassware and tableware provided by Fortessa.) Suite D is a multi-purpose, urban-industrial event space that is perfect for intimate weddings!

    girl and the fig

The following day, San Francisco hot shot chef Thomas McNaughton (Flour + Water) showed us how to make pasta at the Williams-Sonoma flagship store in down-town Sonoma. So much fun!

    chef

Even more fun was the fact that I got to stuff my face with so many rounds of Thomas’s gourmet dishes, that quite honestly, I lost count.

    flour and water thomas mcnaughton

By the end of it, I was tempted to find a quiet corner of the shop and curl up in the cozy William’s Sonoma alpaca throw tucked inside my swag bag, but I checked my itinerary and realized that we were heading over to Silver Oak Winery in Napa. Yay! (Don’t we all look so bright eyed and bushy tailed here? It’s a pre-pasta photo.)

Since I am a Cabernet kind of girl, I was quite interested in the fact that the family-owned Silver Oak Winery is dedicated to producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. And it is a mighty fine Cab, indeed! In fact, I dare say it’s some of the best I’ve had!

    napa winery

I was awestruck by the amount of vineyards in the region. No matter which direction I set my gaze, a sea of grapevines in myriad shades of green stretched out to the horizon. A perfect setting to take a stroll with your sweetheart, don’t you think?

If you are chomping at the bit to put your name in the hat for this incredible giveaway, simply visit Coming Home to Sonoma and fill out the entry form. There is no purchase necessary. The sweepstakes are open to Canadian and American residents.

    Good luck!

Ruben and Eva’s Rooftop Seattle Courthouse Wedding

Posted on December 14, 2015 by Gaelan

A stress-free day is usually at the top of most couples’ wedding wish lists, and Ruben and Eva are no exception. Wanting to keep drama to an absolute minimum on their special day, the couple limited their guest list to only 6 people – friends and family they knew would be there to support them no matter what – and chose to have a simple civil ceremony.

With a stunning view of the city, the bride and groom exchanged their vows on the rooftop of the Seattle Municipal Courthouse on a beautiful summer day in July with their nearest and dearest by their side. And while they kept it simple, the newlyweds both agree that it was a truly amazing day and they wouldn’t change a thing!

Special thanks to Rebecca Anne Photography for sharing all the lovely photos with us today!

It was tricky getting families from both sides together and that became more frustrating than ever.

Was it difficult to pare down the guest list?

Not at all. We knew exactly who we wanted there to share this event with us. All we had to do was tell them the date, time, and location, and we knew that they’d be there.

Did you have any ‘issues’ with the small guest list from friends and family? If so, how did you address them?

Not that we recall. Everyone was on board with the idea that it was our day, and although some of them had things going on, they didn’t let it ruin our moment.

What were the highlights of the ceremony?

Do not overthink it! Share and value each other’s thoughts and opinions. And have fun. Just because it’s not a huge wedding, it does not mean it’s not going to be amazing. I wouldn’t change the slightest detail at all.
