Erinn and Ryan’s Madison Museum of Contemporary Art Wedding

Posted on October 19, 2015 by Gaelan

By limiting their guest list to just 70 people, Erinn and Ryan were able to have the kind of wedding they wanted at the venue of their dreams, the rooftop of the Madison Museum of Modern Art, without having to sacrifice important details like good food and wine due to budgetary constraints. The small guest list also allowed the newlyweds to enjoy the moment – and to spend time with each of their guests!

A huge thank you to Katie Ricard for sharing Erinn and Ryan’s impossibly stylish wedding with us today!

    Wedding Date: August 16, 2014

    Number of Guests: 70

    Wedding Cost: $18,000

Why did you have an intimate wedding?

We wanted the wedding to be more personal, and to keep the cost down while still having it someplace special.

bride getting buttoned into her dress

    bride toasting with her bridesmaids

What are some of the challenges that you faced planning an intimate wedding?

Curating the guest list. Also keeping the cost down; everyone wants to upsell you.

    succulent boutonnieres

    groom using pomade

    groom tying his bow tie

Was it difficult to pare down the guest list?

It wasn’t too terrible. We moved out of state the year before so we knew who our closest friends were at that point, and our families were okay with us not inviting every single family member.

Did you have any ‘issues’ with the small guest list from friends and family? If so, how did you address them?

I didn’t want a lot of children at the wedding, but my mom insisted that family members should be able to bring their kids so we said okay.

What were the highlights of the ceremony?

The highlights include the venue, our officiant’s speech, and the weather.

What were the highlights of the reception?

The highlights of the reception were the food, the drinks, and again the venue.

What was the best thing about having an intimate wedding?

We were able to talk to everyone and enjoy ourselves. Also, that fact that we didn’t go into debt.

What advice do you have for couples who are considering an intimate wedding?

If it feels right, do it. The best weddings I have attended have been intimate weddings.

    Lake Michigan Styled Shoot

Posted on October 16, 2015 by Stephanie

Thomas from Slack Photography, along with his talented team of vendors, put together a dreamy styled shoot that perfectly exemplifies ‘simple elegance’.

The early morning photo shoot captured the sunrise on Lake Michigan, on what Thomas calls a “beautifully dreary day.” The grey tones in the sky add a lovely softness to this stunning beach styled shoot!

The model’s gorgeous, beachy waves, the neutral toned bouquet, lacy sheath dress all attribute to a casual, yet very stylish vibe. Even the invitations, designed + created by Script Merchant , embody the simple yet elegant theme with their cool colors and handwritten type.

    Fabulous Ferns

Posted on October 13, 2015 by Gaelan

Dismissed as filler, ferns often get overshadowed by all those flashy flowers out there, but we think it’s about time it gets to play the starring role, don’t you? Clearly we’re not the only ones that feel this way, as ferns are one of the hottest wedding trends going – and deservedly so! Check out all the ways ferns can make your wedding fabulous.

For a beautiful (and inexpensive) way to decorate your aisle, why not line it with loads of ferns? The more the merrier, we say

These nature inspired wreaths would be perfect for a woodland wedding, but we think they’d look just as lovely indoors against a white walled space.

Flower crowns may be all the rage still, but we think these fern hairpieces are a pretty spectacular alternative for all you earthy brides out there.

Ferns add a certain fullness and lushness to this fresh green and white wedding bouquet, perfect for a spring bride.

The fern’s natural curve lends itself perfectly to this style of wall mounted wreath.

This fern embellished cake is so simple, but oh so gorgeous.

Ferns add an organic and whimsical touch to any place setting whether it’s formal, casual, or something in-between.

Ferns and bell jars – a match made in centerpiece heaven, if you ask us.

Just because ferns have a naturally rustic feel to them, doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate them into a modern wedding. We love how they’ve been paired here with modern geometric details.
