Free wedding printables are not only another great DIY wedding resource, they’re also an easy way to save money without sacrificing style. Here are 12 fun and free wedding printables – from tags to table numbers!

Let’s start with labels. I love these free monograms and customizable Parisian labels. Both are simple and sophisticated and perfect for favors or escort cards. The Parisian ones also come in table numbers!

I love these thank you cards and how artistic and personal they feel.

This movie inspired suite is amazing, it was all inspired by To Catch A Thief! Download it all here!

Having table number napkins is rather clever, and with this printable and iron on transfer paper you too can make them!

If you’re doing e-vites for any part of your wedding, whether they’re your save the dates, or your actual invitations, I think these bunting invites could be perfect! Their circus tent ones are very cute too…

I love door hangers, just can’t help it, here are two different designed door hangers you can print for all around adorableness. You can download the first here and the second here!

What I love most about printables is that they allow you to have a wide array of designs to choose from, that otherwise you may not have been able to budget for, or just as another great DIY wedding addition!

DIY Wedding Programs from Burlap and Vintage Patterned Paper

Posted on June 21, 2011 by Christina

    diy-wedding-program-collage

Jennifer from Memento Designs made these gorgeous DIY wedding programs for her garden wedding (they would also be perfect  for a rustic wedding or a vintage wedding) and she’s agreed to share the project details with IW readers. The project does involve sewing, but if you are not the sewing type – don’t fret! Simply assemble the programs and find a seamstress in your area to stitch them up for you!

    Materials for DIY Wedding Programs

    • decorative card stock(Jennifer found her MJ Designs cardstock at Michaels.)
    • card stockin solid color
    • burlap
    • sewing machine
    • scissors
    • MS word
    • printer
    • sewing machine
    • thread

    Instructions for DIY Wedding Programs

The main elements for these DIY programs are burlap and decorative card stock. The programs are three pages, front and back, not including the front and back cover. Dimensions are 5.5″ x 8.5″.

Jennifer designed her programs in MS word. She printed two pages per sheet, and made them two sided (text on front and back.) By printing two pages per sheet she saved paper and reduced the overall cost of the project.

Jennifer cut each sheet directly down the center margin with her paper cutter.

For the back cover, she used recycled Kraft card stock and for the front cover she used a variety of different vintage patterned papers.

The final layer was a piece of hand-cut scalloped edge burlap fabric, which tied in perfectly with Jennifer’s  hydrangea filled burlap cones used for aisle decor. To hold all of  the individual layers together, she machine sewed down the left margin with a running stitch in a chocolate brown thread.

One Perfect Day by Rebecca Mead: A Review

Posted on June 16, 2011 by Christina

    One perfect day

Before you drop $25,000, or even $5,000 for your Perfect Day, Read Rebecca Mead’s expose of the American wedding industry, One Perfect Day: The Selling of the American Wedding.

One Perfect Day is an excellent read for couples who have recently become engaged. In fact, all ‘thinking’ brides should read this book as a primer to wedding planning – well before the venue is booked, and the dress is found.

One Perfect Daydigs deep into the core of the wedding industry. It gives a behind the scenes look inside an industry that is as sophisticated in manufacturing and marketing fairytales as Walt Disney. (Not surprising Disney is one of the big players in the industry.)

In her quest to understand the American Wedding, Mead travels across the country, attending insider events and meeting with wedding professionals from all facets of the industry – from wedding planners, to officiants, to videographers. The revealing conversations she has with many wedding professionals gives the reader an understanding of just how ‘valuable’ the bride has become in recent years. As one wedding professional put it, she is “a marketer’s dream.”

Mead also travels to a factory in China, where bridal gowns are manufactured for market in the U.S. Her sobering account of the factory conditions and the daily drudgery of the mostly female laborers (they make on average $150 per month working 6-7 days a week) give insight not only into the wedding gown industry – but ‘Made in China’ as a whole. (The question remains, how do we as consumers avoid it when there’s little choice of anything else?)

Mead also challenges the accuracy of the $27,852 price tag placed on the average wedding: a number, she explains that is issued (and promoted) by a major company that publishes bridal magazines.

What’s the advantage of promoting the $27,852 price tag? Mead argues that if a bride is told repeatedly that is the average cost of a wedding, then she believes that spending nearly $28,000 is perfectly acceptable.

One Perfect Dayis an essential read for anyone who wants to create a wedding with authenticity. There’s a good chance that after reading it, a bride will ask herself: Is this the wedding that we really want, or is this the wedding the big white wedding machine has hypnotized us to have? As Mead points out, even the best of us can fall under the glittering, fairytale spell of the American Wedding.

Tea Party Wedding Ideas: Vintage Teacups and Teapots

Posted on June 15, 2011 by Christina

Vintage teacups and teapots are a great affordable detail to add a little touch of whimsy to a tea party wedding.

The patterns of the china immediately add visual interest before you’ve even put anything in them! Their delicate shape make them perfect pieces to add feminine details to whichever area you’re dressing up.

This teacup cake topper is so adorable, not only is it creative, but adding the topper and flowers makes the simplistic cake stand out more and helps pop the detailing in the china pattern and colorful flowers.

I love mismatched china, mixing it together makes shopping for it a lot easier! You can pick basic color palletes that you like then search at thrift stores and flea markets and not be held back by a particular pattern. These cupcakes in the teacups are great for a tea party wedding because you don’t have to cut any cake and it makes serving so easy!

I love ring pillow alternatives, and this is one of my favorites!

These are fantastic teacup place settings and they can be used as favors for your tea party wedding!

Stacked teacups with mismatched patterns and only a few flowers make for great centerpieces. Teapots make fantastic vase alternatives! Again, with the patterns of the china the flowers can stay very simple.

These teacup candles and succulents are amazing DIY favor ideas! They’re memorable, unique and if you shop around can be affordable.

And don’t forget this tutorial for homemade bird feeders make from vintage teacups. These fit in perfect with a tea party theme!

For the best use of vintage teacups and teapots mix patterns, start ahead of time so that you can stock up enough for your guests and chose only a few areas you want to incorporate them into. Thrift stores, ebay and flea markets are best to find great teacups and teapots. Flower arrangements can be affordable and simple when used with vintage teacups and teapots, they make great favors, or an amazing way to start your own collection for after the wedding!

Homemade Bird Feeder From Vintage Teacups: DIY Wedding Favors & Gifts

Posted on June 14, 2011 by Christina

    vintage teacup bird feeder

This adorable homemade bird feeder is a cinch to make and the perfect DIY wedding favor for an outdoor wedding. It also makes a perfect shower gift or bridesmaid gift. (I made some last year as teacher gifts and I will be doing the same this year.)

If your wedding is still a few months away, round up vintage teacups from garage sales, and second-hand stores. I found most of mine at second hand stores for $2 – $4 each.

Homemade Bird Feeder from Vintage Teacups Tutorial

    You will need:

    • 3 feet of 1/2 inch copper plumbing pipe per bird feeder (I paid $4 for three feet at a hardware store)
    • copper cap
    • sand paper or sanding block
    • teacup
    • epoxy
(I used 5 minute epoxy. If you are making a bunch of these go for the slower drying epoxy.)
    • mixing tray and bamboo stick
    • Q-tip
    • birdseed

    Gather your vintage teacups.
