On Top Of The World: Rooftop Weddings

Posted on March 5, 2014 by Gaelan

On your wedding day you will feel like you’re on top of the world, so why not celebrate, literally, on top of the world (or as close as you can get) with a rooftop wedding? Rooftops, like lofts, are excellent blank canvases ready to be molded into the wedding venue of your dreams. They are often large enough to accommodate huge guest lists, but are also perfect for intimate weddings. Think about it, is there anything more romantic than escaping to a secret rooftop somewhere, hidden away from the world below, with the one you love? We don’t think so!

The great thing about rooftops is that they’re all different and unique. From bare concrete slabs to industrial chic hideaways, to secret, elegant gardens – there is a rooftop suited to just about every couple. We think half the fun of a rooftop wedding is the hunt for the perfect one.

Who says you can’t get married on top of a parking garage? Grab your sweetie, gather up our friends, throw down an aisle runner, and you’re good to go.

The logistics of setting up a wedding reception on the roof may be challenging, but we think it’s worth it. How beautiful are these rooftop set-ups?

The rooftops might not be as high in Rome as they are in New York, but you sure can’t beat that view!

Don’t forget to dress for the occasion; just because you’ve decided to hide away on top of the world doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look drop dead gorgeous doing so!

Illuminating your rooftop wedding is key as existing lighting is usually non-existent or minimal at best. Lots of string patio lights and candles will transform the space from dark and dank to intimate and romantic in a heartbeat.

What other venue allows you to dance underneath the stars and the city lights at the same time? Dreamy, right?

Femininity and The Fifties: Vintage Bridal Fashion Inspiration

Posted on March 4, 2014 by Giselle

For a glamorous and feminine feel, 1950’s inspired fashion is a well-loved look for vintage nuptials. Red lips, flared skirts and lace details are lovely touches for bridal inspiration.

Bridal fashion in the fifties was heavily influenced by Christian Dior’s 1947 collection dubbed the New Look. This collection was a much needed boost of optimism for the fashion industry that was struggling after the war. After years of rationing and fewer fabrics, this new style was all about the celebration of the hourglass silhouette and an abundance of stunning materials. Many of the revolutionary outfits in the New Look consisted of a full knife-pleated skirt, fitted jacket with a nipped in waist and slight padding on the hips.

Real Weddings: Meaghan and Eric’s Low-Key NYC Elopement

Posted on March 3, 2014 by Gaelan

Sometimes half the fun of eloping is keeping the whole thing a surprise. But sometimes it isn’t easy to keep it under wraps.

Even though it was a challenge for Meaghan and Eric to keep their New York City Hall elopement plans from family and friends, they did manage to head off to New York for a vacation and a civil wedding ceremony where the only guest was their wonderfully talented photographer Katch Silva.

The best part? They announced their newly married status to their friends by sending them New York postcards sharing the happy news! Now, how cute is that?

    New York City, NY

    Wedding Date: October 1, 2012

Number of Guests: 1 (Katch Silva, our photographer!)

Wedding Cost: $1,800 (rings, marriage license, and photography). Including the trip to NYC, it was probably in the neighbourhood of $3000, but we had planned the trip before the idea to get married ever occurred to us!

Wedding Ceremony Location: New York City Clerk’s Office

Wedding Reception Location: We didn’t have a reception on the day we eloped – instead, we spent a sunny fall afternoon wandering around the Highline and Central Park, drinking coffee and goofing off. Then we had a romantic pizza dinner at Co. Once our folks found out we got married, they threw us a party in a barn the next spring.

Bold and Bejeweled: Jewel-toned Bridesmaid Dresses

Posted on February 28, 2014 by Giselle

Rich jewel tones are still on trend in 2014. Emerald green, ruby red, deep amethyst, turquoise, and amber are hot colors for bridesmaid dresses.

Full length gowns in these gorgeous shades are truly stunning, especially if you only have a few bridesmaids or just a maid of honor. Shorter dresses give a youthful feel.

    8 Fun Candy Buffet Alternatives

Posted on February 27, 2014 by Gaelan

    candy buffet alternatives

Part late night treat table, part take-home favor station, the candy buffet is nothing short of genius if you ask us; it is, hands down, one of our favorite parts of the wedding reception. But as much as we love the candy buffet, even we can admit that it might be time to shake things up a bit with some fun alternatives instead. So if candy ain’t your thing, here are a few ideas, we think you’ll love:

    1.  Milk and Cookie Bar

What better midnight snack than good ol’ fashioned milk and cookies? Keep cartons of milk on ice and a selection of cookies to choose from for a perfect ride home treat.
