I’ll admit that, in the past, floating centerpieces haven’t been the most sophisticated wedding detail. However, now there are fun modern ways to display them and various “floating” methods that bring the trend into the twenty-first century.

I really love simple single floating blooms in shallow bowls. They’re both inexpensive and sophisticated, my favorite combination!

Floating flowers in buckets is another creative idea that would be great for aisle detailing for an added vintage or rustic element.

If you have a pool or pond at your venue floating flowers in them is a dreamy addition that is a great (and easy!) finishing touch instead of  just leaving the pool or pond untouched.

Tall vessels are another way to display floating flowers in centerpieces. Using simple clear vases you can weight the vases with sand or stones and wedge the base of the stems in the bottom so that they give the look of being suspended. Another clever idea is stacking varying sized clear bowls and floating flowers within them.

Floating flowers allow you to use less flowers because the vessels become part of the centerpiece, which in turn saves money. When thinking about a floral design for floating flowers remember that using the same type of flower per vessel will look the most clean and modern. Also, get creative! If you’re floating blooms in bowls pick out fun bowls, use an eclectic mix of vintage, or all one color but different shapes and sizes with the same variety of flower. Most importantly this is a trend to have fun with!

You’ve already seen how to make regular chairs and seating look more unique and personalized, but now you can have even more chair inspiration for the two most important seats at the wedding – the bride and groom!

I am absolutely in love with these 1950’s inspired bright colored and glittery graphic bride and groom seat markers!

Bride and groom seating does not have to be marked on the chairs alone. I love the simplicity of these tags tucked into the forks.

Silhouettes are also adorable, and I would love if they had only been used subtly and were tied through to the chairs as well, i.e. the invitations had a silhouette element, or the save-the-date etc.

Always a sucker for a vintage chalkboard. Short, sweet, and to the point.

These beautiful blooms displayed for the bride and groom seats look gorgeous and even a little regal; just what you want on your wedding day!

Using scrabble tiles to spell out bride and groom for their places would be adorable as well!

I saved the best for last! I love the vintage feel of the term “just hitched”. It’s adorable and this sign complete with hanging cans and all is too perfect for words!

If you’re a history nut, why not get married at one of Canada’s historical museums or monuments. Signal Hill and Cabot Hill for instance are just a couple of sites that are available for wedding ceremonies.

Vintage doors are such a fantastically simple way to add rustic or vintage charm to your wedding decor! They’re great for so many different uses too: backdrops, table tops or even use them as actual doors!

I’ll go with simple first. These are just propped up doors, but their simplicity is beautiful. Garnished with flowers or a precious saying, the doors can shine with very little altering.

Another general door usage is, well, a door. These vintage doors are set up so that the couple can walk through them. I like the unexpected use of them outside as well as the symbolism they provoke.

Vintage doors are also a great item to display things from, menus and seating charts are both great!

I also adore vintage doors being used for altar backdrops. Here couples used sets of vintage screen doors as well. A grouping in various complimentary colors is simple but beautiful and makes an impact.

Doors also make great table tops! Fun for your dessert bar, or drink stand, you could even get really ambitious and make all of your tables out of vintage doors!

Finding cool vintage doors shouldn’t be too difficult. Architectural salvage yards and building supply re-use stores are you best bet. Vintage doors range in price from $10-$200 depending on their size, age, thickness, quality, etc. Remember, if you find a door that has a perfect shape but you don’t like the color, you can always paint, or even wallpaper it! Standing the doors up can be done by propping them up between something heavy (planters for example) or just by purchasing simple materials from the hardware store and making stands. Enjoy!
